 Industry Training Organisation

The History

The PCAITO has been an Industry Training Organisation April 1997.

It is officially recognised by the New Zealand Government as the national standards setting body for skills standards relating to the operation and service for all forms of cranes.

As such it has taken the leading role in the development of Unit Standards and National Qualifications.

Under the national qualifications system, all learners meeting the requirements defined by the Unit Standard have credits for their learning listed on a record of learning with NZQA. This record also includes any complete qualification gained such as a National Certificate

The Task

The PCAITO administers records of unit standards and qualifications attained by each candidate and ensures standards are maintained and the qualifications have value and are recognised nation wide.

The processes followed are defined in what is known as the " Black Book " and the details may be viewed here.

Industry Acceptance

The qualificatons have been well received by the industry, giving recognition to the skills and knowledge required and attained by crane operators where previously there was none.

In excess of 2000 people have under taken training and have attained competency in units standards in this domain. Over 100 have competed the requirements and attained National Certificates
